About Graham Lee
Associate Professor Graham Lee is from Brisbane, Australia. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1991, a Master of Medical Science in Ophthalmology in 1994, Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology in 1999 and a Doctorate of Medicine in 2005. In 2000, he undertook a Glaucoma Fellowship at Birmingham and Midlands Eye Centre, Birmingham and in 2001 a Cataract, Cornea and Refractive Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Particular specialties include lamellar corneal grafting and advanced management of complex glaucoma. Awards include the Alcon/RACO Travelling Scholarship 2001, AUSCRS Film Festival 2001 and 2005 and the Pharmacia & Upjohn RACO Award 1998. In 2013, he was awarded the Grand Prize at the World Glaucoma Congress Film Festival in Vancouver and the RANZCO Award for Excellence in Training. Teaching Ophthalmology is one of his key interests and has lectured locally, nationally and internationally including developing countries such as Cambodia, Nepal and Laos.
He has an active interest in Ophthalmic teaching having presented more than 200 lectures at local, national and international levels as well as more than 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He has lectured and demonstrated surgery in developing countries such as Cambodia and Nepal and was a chief examiner for the Cambodian Diploma in Ophthalmology program. His appointments include Director of Cornea and Glaucoma Services, Chair of Qualifications and Education in the state of Queensland and holds the academic title of Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Queensland.

About Peter Shah
Professor Peter Shah is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Supra-Regional Glaucoma Specialist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. He is also a Visiting Professor to the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology). He is Honorary Professor of Glaucoma at the Centre for Health and Social Care Improvement at the University of Wolverhampton.
Prof Shah is an internationally-recognised leader in glaucoma surgery, and also specialises in complex cataract surgery and anterior segment reconstruction. He has written 8 ophthalmology textbooks and has authored over 80 research publications. Published books include the ABC of Eyes, Key Topics in Ophthalmology, Eye Disease in Clinical Practice and Glaucoma and Paediatric Ophthalmology Learning Needs Assessment Tools. Professor Shah is a founder-member of the Midlands Glaucoma Society, past-chair of the British Eye Study Group, Secretary of the Council of the Oxford Ophthalmological Congress and a Council member of the British Ophthalmic Anaesthesia Society.
As an educator he has organised many national and international symposia and courses, including annual Glaucoma and Ocular Surface Disease Masterclasses , "Consultant Survival Skills" (a leadership course for recently-appointed specialists which focuses on patient safety and risk management), the Royal College of Ophthalmology (RCO) Glaucoma Surgery Masterclass and the Trabeculectomy Wet-lab Academy. He also co-organises the RCO Glaucoma Sub-speciality Day. Professor Shah has a long-term interest in patient safety and risk management and is a national instructor in these areas.
Professor Shah has previously worked as the Director of Education ("Eyes and Vision Theme") for University College London Partners at the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology). Prof Shah is the co-editor for Ophthalmic Anaesthesia, the journal of the British Ophthalmic Anaesthesia Society. He is a past-Glaucoma section editor for "Eye" and is a reviewer for several international journals. Professor Shah is the leader of the "ReGAE" team – Research into Glaucoma And Ethnicity – which aims to prevent avoidable glaucoma blindness in the diverse ethnic communities of the UK and share the findings globally. Research interests include optimising outcomes in glaucoma filtration surgery, acute primary angle closure, cyclodialysis cleft surgery, developing patient engagement tools (Glaucoma Patient Passport), developing glaucoma outcome measures (Glaucoma POEM – Patient-generated Outcome and Experience Measure), paediatric ocular trauma and the influence of ethnicity and social deprivation on avoidable blindness. His team has a major mixed methods and qualitative research component.
Professor Shah is currently a Co-Investigator on several research trials with current grants of approximately £450,000. He is part of a team setting up a randomised controlled trial of primary medical treatment versus selective laser trabeculoplasty for glaucoma in Tanzania. He is also part of a British Ophthalmic Surveillance Unit prospective epidemiological study looking at all major paediatric ocular trauma in the UK over a 12 month period.
Professor Shah has a passionate interest in mentoring and is currently publishing a book - Becoming An Effective Mentor: How And Why? He has previously run a foundation mentoring course at the World Glaucoma Congress. He also leads a team looking at ways to enhance mentoring for women in science and medicine through the Athena SWAN challenge.
Peter is also a member of a team of Eye Surgeons providing charitable support to an Ophthalmic Unit in Tanzania via "Sight For East Africa". Professor Shah has trained the senior glaucoma surgeon in Moshi and provides long-term mentoring support.
