Feeling blue? Get creative to put yourself in an 'upward spiral'

If life's got you down, write, draw or knit — you'll feel better tomorrow. That's the advice from a psychology study by New Zealand's University of Otago, which found that creative acts lead to an uptick in mood. The research team, led by Dr Tamlin Conner, had 658 university students keep a diary of their experiences and emotional states for 13 days. Analysing the diaries determined that the students had a boosted "positive affect" and higher "flourishing" on the days after they were creative. Read the full story
